Hidden roots

Most roots can function as storage organs to store excess food produced by photosynthesis. In some plants (such as the carrots and parsnips on display in this exhibit), specialized roots hold large reserves of food, and they can be used by animals as food sources. This exhibit gives you an unusual look at these underground parts of a plant.
