Ovate pseudobulb. Very closely related to Cattleya (4 pollinia) except Laelia has 8 pollinia.
Sympodial growth habit.
*The above describtion is an updated version from Wikipedia. The original Laelia genus
has about 50 to 70 species, they belong to two unrelated groups: one from Brazil, another from Mexico. The Mexican group
retains the name of Laelia. The Brazilian group is grouped with Sophronitis in the year of 2000 although
their commercial labels remain Laelia.
