Laelia (L.)

About 11 species. Native to Central America, mostly Mexico. Ovate pseudobulb. Very closely related to Cattleya (4 pollinia) except Laelia has 8 pollinia. Sympodial growth habit.

*The above describtion is an updated version from Wikipedia. The original Laelia genus has about 50 to 70 species, they belong to two unrelated groups: one from Brazil, another from Mexico. The Mexican group retains the name of Laelia. The Brazilian group is grouped with Sophronitis in the year of 2000 although their commercial labels remain Laelia.
